Comings and Goings

July 10th, 2008

We here at the BCDG are very excited to welcome all the Fresh Meat girls who have graduated into our ranks of full-fledged members recently! With Sewer Shark, Shottie 2 Hottie, DestructEVE, Chopper Chic, Freakarella, and Alabama Slam-Her joining us, we’re growing at a pretty good clip!

But.

We have, unfortunately, lost several skaters recently - some temporarily, some for good. Pinky and the Pain and Kali Fornication have both moved away in the past month (and we miss them both already! :( *snf snf*). Surely MacPAIN, Trauma Sutra, Justass of the Piece, and Liz Phear (that’s me) are filling out Team Gimp on the injured bench. Hot Diggity Dog and Bringit Bardot have some personal stuff they’re taking care of, but we hope they’ll be back soon. And Nauti-SeaCups is out due to pregnancy (our league’s first derby baby! We’re so proud!).

So even though we’ve got a lot of new players, we need more. Fresh Meat!!! We need more Fresh Meat!!! If you’re a woman over the age of 21, please check out our recruitment page. Come to our Fresh Meat sessions on Sunday nights from 6:30-8:30 at Gold Coast Roller Rink, 2604 S. Federal Hwy, Fort Lauderdale. If you don’t know how to skate, we’ll teach you - it’s not that hard, I promise. Or come see us in action at our next bout on July 13th. Once you see how much fun we have kicking each others’ asses, you’ll want to be a derby grrl, too!

You’ve never been to a luau like this before! The Broward County Derby Grrls (BCDG), an all female roller-derby league, will be hosting their third public home bout at Goldcoast Roller Rink on Sunday, June 15 called Kamanawanaboutya (“bout” being derby slang for a match or game). Spectators will be able to enjoy all the hard-hitting, fast-paced roller derby action they’ve come to expect from the BCDG, this time with a Hawaiian flair.

They skate fast, they hit hard, and they throw a great party. This father’s day, forget the tie, buy him a Mai Tai!
